The youngest of 3 siblings, Alice Young from Co. Limerick is filing an official appeal form against her parents following their decision to not change her bedtime from 8:30 pm to 9:15 pm.
“It’s just not fair. I’m the only one in my class who still has to go to bed before 9” said the 8 year old. “I get home, do a bit of homework and then play outside, but it’s just not enough free time – I live a busy lifestyle!”
Alice’s lawyers are expected to mention that she needs an hour and a half of exercise per day and her parents are stopping her from staying healthy, and the fact that Alan and Tom [older siblings] can go to sleep anytime before 11. The lawyers may accuse the parents of child cruelty and threaten to take away their custody if their original plan doesn’t work: “We hope it doesn’t come to this, but we’re ready to represent our client in order to get whats in their best interest.”
Alice told Eritas “I’ve spent my communion money and pocket money to pay for these lawyers [around €1,760] , so I’m confident that my parents will change their minds as to the whole bed-time situation.”
The two sides will appear in the make-shift court set up in the family kitchen this evening before 8:30pm to try settle the issue.
Eritas will keep you updated as the situation develops.
